Our Brew Guide

Whether you’re used to double-doubles or dialed-in pour-overs, Breakout Coffee is roasted to meet you where you are  and take you a little further. This guide gives you simple, flexible steps to brew great coffee at home, using whatever gear you’ve got.

General Tips (Works for All Methods):

- Use clean, fresh water — filtered if possible
- Hot water should be just off the boil (around 200°F / 93°C)
- Use about 1 scoop (1 tablespoon) of ground coffee per 6 oz of water
- Or go precise: 1g of coffee for every 16g of water (1:16 ratio)
- Freshly ground beans taste better, but pre-ground works too
- Taste and adjust — coffee is personal

1. Drip Machine (Your Classic Home Brewer)
- Use 1–2 scoops per cup (or 15g per 250ml)
- Medium grind (like beach sand)
- Brew time: 4–6 minutes
- Tip: Rinse your paper filter first to avoid papery taste

Best for: Game On or Short Side Decaf
Why: Smooth, easy-drinking, and great for early mornings or late nights

2. French Press
- Use 1 scoop per 6 oz (or 60g per 1L)
- Coarse grind (like sea salt)
- Add hot water, stir, let sit for 4 minutes
- Press slowly and pour

Best for: Heritage Dark or Short Side Decaf
Why: Bold, cozy, and perfect for cold mornings or rinkside sipping

3. AeroPress
- Use 1–1.5 scoops (15–17g)
- Medium-fine grind (a bit finer than drip)
- Add 240g hot water, stir, wait 1 minute, then press slowly
- Optional: Add more hot water to make it a longer cup

Best for: Game On or Coast to Coast Espresso
Why: Fast, clean, and great for travel or busy mornings

4. Espresso Machine
- Use 2 scoops (18–20g) for a double shot
- Fine grind (like table salt)
- Brew time: 25–30 seconds
- Tip: If it tastes sour, grind finer; if it’s bitter, grind coarser

Best for: Coast to Coast Espresso or Heritage Dark
Why: Rich, sweet, and perfect for lattes or straight shots

5. Chemex (If You’re Feeling Fancy)
- Use 2 scoops per cup (or 30g per 500g water)

- Pour hot water slowly in circles
- Total brew time: 4–5 minutes

Best for: Game On or Coast to Coast
